Google’s Webmasters Tools Can Be Very Useful For Your Website Optimization

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

I just wanted to post a quick post regarding one of Google’s new additions to their webmaster tools.  If you are unfamilar as to what Google webmaster tools are I highly recommend you search google for “Webmaster Tools” and then goto the Google Webmasters Tools site itself or alternatively head straight to their site: http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools

If you have a website you should immediately see the value of a free account to you.  You will be able to find out many statistics about your site if it is listed in Google itself.  You can also perform some diagnostics, view statistics for your site, view incoming and outgoing links to your pages, there is even a great little sitemap tool to use!

When I talk about statistics I am meaning you will be able to find information out such as what people are searching for when they get to your site in Google and the crawling stats of google’s spider on your site.

They have just recently added a new feature too! It is a handy robots.txt generator for your site so you can tell most search engine spiders what pages to index and which not to look at.  The robots.txt file itself is one which many website owners either do not know about or just don’t think to update but it is very important, especially if you have pages you don’t want indexed.  It ultimately makes it easier for the search engines to find you!

I just wanted to let you know what Google Webmaster Tools are and how a free account can help you out.  I recommend at least checking it out and am sure you will find it helpful.
