What would you do when disaster strikes?
Okay, so you have just recently settled into a new house that you were able to purchase thanks to your “secure” job. You have a nice car, nice things, and are able to live happily without many issues…but then it happens…Your so called “secure job” wasn’t really as secure as you thought and you were let go. So now, you have to somehow continue to pay off your house, your car, along with support your family without a job for income anymore…what do you do?
It doesn’t matter how secure you are with your current situation, there are things that can happen that can turn your life upside down. The situation above actually just happened to a relative of mine. He was doing extremely well, was very happy, and was working towards his dream…but then he lost his job and his life was literally changed overnight.
There are people who without thinking simply break down in such a situation. The pressure is too overwhelming for them and they just don’t know where to turn, who to turn to, or even where to go to get back on track. Sometimes such people get depressed and actually harm themselves more just through thinking of the negative things that have happened…But I am telling you now, think positive and look towards the future…not the past. This is called an optimist view and will make you much happier in almost any situation.
Both types of people would most likely start immediately looking for a new job because quite frankly…they need a job to survive, this is completely acceptable too. They begin to look at such sites as Workopolis, Monster, and their associated job banks in their area and may apply for EI. They may do this because they need some sort of an income to be able to get through the difficult and tedious task of looking and applying for new jobs without an income to pay for the bills. One big, sad problem that tends to occur under such circumstances is that the person in this situation tends to get desparate to find a job and will end up settling for a job that they do not like. This can cause them pain and heartache in the future because their unhappiness at their job may begin to rub off at home.
Now, I understand that people need to take jobs they don’t necessarily enjoy in order to pay the bills, but they don’t have to settle into that job if they don’t enjoy it. As I mentioned earlier…keep thinking positive and look towards your future. Work towards your dream job!
So let me ask you…what would you do in such a situation? If you have a reply I would appreciate you leave a comment.
This situation is one of a few reasons why I decided to start my own business in the first place. I did not want to have the ultimate insecurity of working under someone else with them being able to say if I have a job or not. Yes, the short term results can be treacherous, but the long term results with proper direction and motivation can be absolutely wonderful. Obviously working for yourself is not for everyone because many people do not have the knowledge or background to be able to do so. This should not stop you from reaching your dreams though. The Internet provides you with great opportunity for success, thanks to a global presence. You are able to access information easily, learn easily, even make money easily…as long as you know what you are doing and what you aim to accomplish.
So if you are a person who is working at a job that you don’t fully enjoy and cannot see yourself wanting to work at for the rest of your life…I recommend you start working towards your ultimate dream now. DO NOT get too comfortable with your current situation if you dream of more…constantly work towards your dream and you will begin to see great potential for yourself to be able to reach it!

You may be thinking, this is a Marketing blog…how does this article fit into such a blog?
Actually, marketing works both in business and personal situations. Just think about this for a minute; promoting yourself to potential employees is actually marketing yourself to those people. A resume is a marketing medium in order to get potential employers to consider you, just like a newspaper advertisement is for a business looking to get customers to consider a product. An interview itself includes many of the basic marketing fundamentals and if you know how to effectively market a product or service, then you should be able to effectively market yourself! For example: In promoting products you will talk about the benefits they have and how they can help the end consumer. This technique should carry over into your interviews as well, since you should talk about the benefits that you will bring the company you are applying to work with.
What I am essentially attempting to get across here is that marketing is mainly looked at as being a business task that businesses utilize to promote themselves, their products, and their services, but it is actually so much more. If you already have, or work to get a marketing background of some nature, then you can have a step up on others when you go to accomplish many different things in life.
